Brief History

In 2002, several people began to come to Calvary Apostolic Church in Des Moines from the Perry area. People were baptised and received the baptism of Holy Ghost, and prayer was made to see a work rise up in Perry. Pastor Rex Deckard, along with Bro. Dan Davison began weekly Bible Studies at the McCreary Recreation Center in Perry, which continued for about 8 months.

When the Calvary Apostolic Church became involved in a church plant in Winterset, Iowa, activities in Perry were put on hold for about 3 years. In October of 2004, there was renewed interest in Perry, due largely to people travelling to Des Moines for services. Once again, Bible studies resumed in the community center, and a series was done on Endtime Prophecy. Bro. Gregg Davison, and later Bro. William McCurn and their spouses stepped in, along with Kelly and David Kiefer in reaching out to the Perry community.

Rowley Masonic Home Chapel

In order to pursue a location more suitable for worship, the group moved the next year to the Rowley Masonic Home Chapel, where they met for about 10 months. During that time, the Lord did a tremendous thing, one night. A visiting  foreign missionary was preaching in the service on a Thursday night, and at the end of his message, a deep move of God passed through the small congregation. People wept and prayer. Pastor Deckard saw what appeared to be a vision from God of a woman that was reachingout for the Lord. Although he did not know it at the moment, Bro. Davison saw the identical vision.

As Pastor Deckard was dismissing the service, weeping he shared the vision that he had seen in prayer. Bro. Davison leapt to his feet, and before Bro. Deckard finished, he had described the exact details of the woman! It was an identical vision. From that point, they began to pray that the Lord would lead them to this family.

In the near future, a young man of Perry was baptized in a hotel swimming pool during a youth conference, and received the Holy Ghost. Soon, his family came to services- and it was the family of the vision!

In the Spring of 2006, the church was able to relocate to a semi-permanent location at Perry Plaza, across the street from the Masonic Home, and expand the services to include both Thursday and Sunday.
